Thematic Units Planning Form-Teaching history might best be accomplished by creating thematic units around historical time periods and events.  This form will help teachers develop units that meet the needs of complex learners.

Virginia Department of Education's webpage includes Enhanced Scope and Sequence Guides to assist with instruction and adaptations as well as links to other on-line resources for thematic unit development.

T/TAC online has links to the curriculum framework for history/social science, as well as the scope and sequence documents!

ASOL and SOL Crosswalk 2011 for History/Social Science- use this document to link the SOL Enhanced Scope and Sequence guide to the ASOL you are teaching.

The T/TAC at ODU has a thematic unit for teaching  history to students with intellectual disabilities that you can order from them for free!  Connection to the ASOL are included.

Tarheel Reader- This website has an enormous selection of easy to read books on different topics including history.  We would recommend that you check the books for accuracy and appropriateness.  The books can be read directly online, saved on your computer in your own library, or downloaded and printed out to add to your classroom library.

Don Johnston's Start to Finish Literacy Starters have several titles related to different historical topics and events.  We have many of the titles available in our VCU T/TAC library.

Loudoun County's AT website has lots of links to cool activities and resources to help when teaching history/social science.
